🎸 Welcome to Guitar Journey 53

Hello and welcome to Guitar Journey 53—a blog dedicated to documenting my experience learning to play the guitar at the age of 53 and beyond.

Like many, I’ve picked up the guitar at various points in my life, only to set it down again when life got in the way. But this time is different. This time, I’m all in. No more excuses, no more half-hearted attempts. I’ve made a commitment to finally follow through on one of the biggest goals of my life: learning to play this beautiful instrument.

Why Now?

Because it’s never too late.

I’ve always believed that music has the power to transform, to heal, and to connect. And while I may be starting later than some, I’m bringing with me a lifetime of appreciation, patience, and determination. This journey isn’t just about learning chords and scales—it’s about proving to myself (and maybe to you, too) that age is no barrier to growth.

What’s Different This Time?

  • The Right Teacher: I’ve found an incredible instructor—someone I believe is not only the best in my area but among the best in the country. I’ll be sharing more about them in future posts.
  • Quality Gear: I’ve invested in equipment that inspires me to play. No more blaming cheap guitars or bad tone. If it sounds off, it’s on me—and that’s a good thing.
  • Total Commitment: This isn’t a hobby. It’s a mission. I’m showing up, putting in the time, and embracing the process—mistakes and all.

What You Can Expect

This blog will be a mix of:

  • Progress updates and practice logs
  • Gear reviews and recommendations
  • Lessons learned (sometimes the hard way)
  • Reflections on learning music later in life
  • Encouragement for fellow late bloomers

Whether you’re a seasoned player, a fellow beginner, or someone who’s always wanted to start but never did—I hope you’ll find something here that resonates.

So follow along, share your own stories, ask questions, or just say hi. Let’s make music together.

Until next time—
Happy strumming!
